Disney has enjoyed tremendous success with their live-action remakes of their animated films (or at least the ones not named Alice Through the Looking Glass). That proverbial home run streak will be tested again next spring when Disney releases its latest remake effort, Beauty and the Beast, but despite the fact that its coming out in only seven months, all we’ve seen so far is a brief teaser trailer. What gives? Doesn’t Disney know we’re starving for details? Well we’ve now got the second best thing to official released teases, leaked teases. And this one reveals what two of the main characters in the movie might look like.
Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis tweeted the below photo of what’s supposedly Cogsworth (Ian McKellen) and Lumiere (Ewan McGregor) from the upcoming Beauty and the Beast remake from director Bill Condon. The image comes from the special features on the upcoming 25th anniversary release of the animated Beauty and the Beast on DVD and Blu-ray.
Does this look kind of scary to you? Fortunately producer Jack Morrissey went on Facebook to say that the above image may only be concept art and that, “These designs are close but may not be final.” That’s kind of a relief because that looks like the Cogsworth and Lumiere from David Lynch’s Beauty and the Beast and not a family-friendly, Disney-approved production. On the flipside though, at least we have another image that is slightly more confirmable as part of the film, a scene that looks like it features Gaston played by Luke Evans and his toadie Le Fou played by Josh Gad. This one comes from B-roll on the special features on the re-release.
Beauty and the Beast will be in theaters everywhere on March 17, 2017; that 25th anniversary re-release of the original comes out on September 20.
