By now we’re all well aware of the plot from Captain America 3 : Civil War – In the wake of the Avengers efforts to save the planet, and the subsequent collateral damage caused, political pressure mounts as government calls for the heroes to be held accountable. An act is drawn up which will see Super humans registered and monitored. Captain America is opposed to the act sighting that this is a breach of freedom, whereas Iron Man supports the change. The friends must do battle and fight for they believe in. This results in heroes picking sides.

It was hardly surprising that Ant-man (Scott Lang) sided with Steve Rogers given his connection to (original Ant-Man) Hank Pym and his distrust of the Stark family. Ant-mans addition to Civil War afforded the film a bit of comic relief, as well as cementing a relatively new character to the Marvel film franchise. But was Ant-Man always on the side of Team Cap? Early concept art from the film has been released that depicts (a giant) Ant- Man doing battle with Captain America himself in the Airport fight scene.

One half of the Directing team Anthony Russo explains how the confusion was caused :

“Very early on in the process, before there’s even much of a narrative thought out at all, we do begin a process of visual exploration and just in terms of what kind of imagery excites us from the comics, and what kind of possibilities exist in the movie when we sort of translate the comic into the movie…. What you were seeing there, I think once we started getting into the narrative, pretty early on, Ant Man was allied with Cap. I think the story mechanics went that way pretty quickly. It wasn’t like he was bouncing back and forth between sides. That artwork must have predated that.”

In the run up to the films Blu-ray release on September 13th , the cast and crew have been talking about Ant-man’s addition to the sequel. In an exclusive Marvel featurette they talk about what Ant-Man lends to the film.

Ant-man and The Wasp is currently in development starring Paul Rudd and co-star Evangeline Lilly as well as director Peyton Reed returning to the helm. The project is set to be released a few months after Avengers : Infinity War and which will more than likely feature Scott Lang in some form. With his popularity starting to pick up as a firm Marvel favourite the future is looking big for the Antm-Man
