The fifth Underworld movie has just released it’s first trailer and while most of you are working through the whole, “They’re still making those?” conversation in your head, let’s move on and take a look at director Anna Foerster‘s (Outlander, Criminal Minds) first big screen movie, Underworld: Blood Wars.
Kate Beckinsale is back for another Underworld and it is undeniable that these Underworld movies make money, doubling, often tripling the budget at the box office. It’s sure money in the bank for Sony and in the age of big blockbuster superhero movies that go fizzle and go bust at the box office, a sure bet is a nice thing. Here’s the official synopsis:
The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Here’s the trailer:
Well, like it or not, these films will continue to make money as long as Kate wants to do them. The films aren’t actually bad, but just seem more the lazy Saturday afternoon type movie. The franchise does have a solid fan base that will turn out for each new film and it can’t be denied that the films are a solid bet at the box office for producers.
The real question is… which will give up on their franchise first, Underworld‘s Kate Beckinsale or Resident Evil‘s Milla Jovovich?
Underworld: Blood Wars hits theater screens January 6th, 2017.
