Everyone was thinking that our next best hope for a less dour and apocalyptic Batman on the big screen in the near future was The LEGO Batman Movie in February, but now Will Arnett and Co will have to step aside for a moment when another Dark Knight cuts in. It’s been announced that Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, the latest DC Comics Animated Universe movie, will follow in the very successful footsteps of Batman: The Killing Joke with a one-night only run in theaters before its home video release. For the first time in 50 years, Adam West and Burt Ward will be back on the big screen as Batman and Robin.
Fathom Events will be hosting screenings of Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders at select theaters on Monday October 10 for 2:00, 7:30 and 10:00 pm showings. Along with the 72-minute animated film, Fathom also promises a special introduction and a never-before-seen documentary, Those Dastardly Desperados, to accompany for a brisk 95-minute show. This follows on the heels of The Killing Joke, which, although being a very different Batman animated movie, had a very successful one-day theatrical run back in July prior to its home video release.
Return of the Caped Crusaders features the long-awaited encore performance of West and Ward as Batman and Robin, as well as Julie Newmar, who was one of three actress to play Catwoman on the 60s series. In the film, the Dynamic Duo face off against the combined villainy of Penguin, The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman, who have a plot so nefarious that it will require Batman and Robin to go all the way to space and back in order to stop them and return peace and justice to Gotham City.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader will be released digitally on October 11, and then on physical DVD and Blu-ray on November 1.
