While in some cases no news might be good news, a lot of the time some news is not great news. Fans of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi‘s What We Do In The Shadows were ecstatic when word started making the Internet rounds about a sequel/spinoff that would feature the We’re not Swear-wolves gang of werewolves in their own film. Now Waititi has given another update on the project, but it’s not what most WWDIS fans might want to hear.
In a recent interview with IGN,Waititi talked about the project saying:
It’s still in the works. But the Jemaine [Clement] and Taika works is a very long and slow machine – we put an idea in one end, and it takes about six years to come out the other end. And sometimes it doesn’t even come out. And sometimes it comes out as a different idea. So we’ve out the idea of We’re Wolves into the machine, and it’s now slowly going through the sausage maker. So in a couple of years I think it will come out as a script and we’ll shoot that. Or maybe it will just come out as some t-shirts.
While what he said is an interesting look into the process the two use to create, the WWDIS fan inside is weeping softly about the additional wait. We’ll all just have to cling to the old saying that good things come to those who wait. In the meantime, we’ll also have Thor: Ragnarok to look forward to. Marvel’s decision to bring Waititi into the Marvel directors fold was a smart one that should pay big dividends when it comes to the way Marvel injects comedy into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
