Yes, it is #BatmanDay. If you didn’t buy Batman a present, you’ve still got a couple of hours, but it looks like today it’s Zack Snyder that’s handing out the gifts. As you may have heard, there’s presently a Justice League movie in production, and while it features the Dark Knight as a key figure within it, it also features one of his main allies, Commissioner Gordon. Gotham City’s top cop has a small but pivotal role in the Justice League film, and it will be up to Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons to bring him to life again, and now we know what Simmons will look like in the film.
There’s been Lyle Talbot, Neil Hamilton, Pat Hingle, Gary Oldman, Ben McKenzie, and now, as revealed by Snyder’s Twitter feed, J.K. Simmons will play Commissioner Gordon looking like…
Now that’s how you stage a publicity still! It looks like it was ripped from the Columbia Pictures archives of the 1949 Batman & Robin serial. Say what you want about Snyder, but he knows how to stage a publicity photo and make things look awesome. Ripped from the pages of the comic book, this is an old-fashioned-looking Commissioner Gordon with the trench coat and the fedora, every inch the image of Gordon we think about when we think about the character. All that’s missing is the pipe, but we all know that smoking is evil, so it’s unlikely that a hero character will be seen smoking tobacco in a major Hollywood franchise movie any time soon. Still, looking good, J.K.!
Justice League will be in theatres everywhere on November 17, 2017.
