The first Phantasm movie came out in 1979 and 37 years later the fifth Phantasm: Ravager is set to wrap up the franchise created by Don Coscarelli. Paired with the release of this new movie is the restored version of the original. Will we finally find out what the hell the Tall Man is doing?
This last film in the series goes full circle bringing back Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury, Reggie Bannister, and Angus Scrimm who sadly passed away in January. Creator Coscaelli had this to say about Phantasm: Ravager.
It’s a swan song to the series. There’s some new iterations of those brain-shucking spheres and a lot of good stuff that the fans will enjoy. It ties up a lot of the storylines and answers some questions that fans have had.
Interestingly, Coscarelli stepped back from the director’s chair this time turning the duty over to David Hartman, who helped co-write the final script with Coscarelli. Phantasm: Ravager will premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin Texas on September 25th. Check out the trailer below.
The franchise has always been low-budget, but that is one of the things that makes these movies so classic. There is a large cult following and after a few years we can expect someone to pick up the torch and reboot the franchise.
