With Stranger Things being greenlit for a second season, production is about to begin for the fan favorite show. The producers have already started releasing a few details about the show, including the titles for the upcoming episodes. Due to the critical and fan praise for the show, they know that expectations are high and producer/director Shawn Levy promises that season two will be “next-level” and fans will be happy with where everything’s going.
“Yes, the pressure is on. It would be so blatantly disingenuous of me to say differently. It’s scary to have people love something this much. It becomes impossible to banish all thoughts of not wanting to disappoint. This has been the challenge of it: on the one hand as we’ve see in the movie world, to do a follow-up that feels like the same thing is disappointing to an audience; to abandon things or change things [from the original], that disappoints the audience. A lot of Season 2 is next-level, some crazy stuff, but we must service these characters who are now beloved, who are known to the audience.”
The Duffer Brothers have stated that season two will be a sequel to the first and not an anthology series. They have also said that there will be heavy inspiration from director James Cameron for the second season.
“One of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original,”
Since the kids from the first season are returning they will grow and mature in the second season. As a result, the show will age with the young kids from last season as well. Even before they start filming, Levy commented on the growth of the characters from season one.
“We had dinner with the kids. We could see it right in front of us. They are not the same. They are still, thank God, charming and authentic, but it is a different form of those things.”
“I think we’re going to stay honest with these kids by growing with them.”
In addition, there will be new characters on the show will pick up a year after the events of the first season and will be in the fall of 1984. Maybe we’ll get a Halloween themed episode.
