Shortly after the last Pirates of the Caribbean film was released back in 2011, Disney started planning for yet another film. After going through a little bit of development hell, the film was finally green-lit in 2014 with Johnny Depp returning as everyone’s favorite Keith Richards impersonator, Captain Jack Sparrow. Also returning are Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa, Kevin McNally as Gibbs, and Orlando Bloom returning as Will Turner, who we haven’t seen since the third film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
The film will be directed by Joachim Rønning & Espen Sandberg, and written by Jeff Nathanson and premiering in 2017. The plot centers on Sparrow being chased by a former rival captain (Javier Bardem), who is now a ghost. Jack Sparrow seeks a powerful artifact, the Trident of Poseidon in order to defeat him. The film has seemed to have fallen off the radar for a little bit, but Disney just released a teaser trailer for the upcoming film. Take a look at the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The trailer doesn’t show Jack or Will in action but instead focuses on the new bad guy Javier Bardem as he pillages. It seems like it might be a litter darker than previous installments of the film as well. If the film is to have the same level of humor as the previous ones, there’s none of it in this teaser. Time will tell how this one will be as it hits theaters May 26, 2017.
