Finally, a show about the Happiest Place on Earth. Will it be a show about the making of Disneyland, a weekly hour-long drama based on how truly demented Mr. Toads Wild Ride really is? Nobody knows. What we do know is that Agent Carter Showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have sold an hour-long dramatic television series pitch idea to Disney-owned network ABC. The show is “based on the Disney theme park mythology.”
What else do we know? Not much. Deadline (via) has reported that the television project is “based on the Disney theme park mythology.” While the show project is currently untitled, the show is currently being billed as “Hyperion.” Fazekas and Butters will be executive producing with former Disney executive-turned-producer Jason Reed (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Other than that, details are being kept in the Disney Vault so to speak.
But hey, this is the internet we can do some digging of our own. Let the surmising begin!
Any Disney nerd worth their weight in Disneyland Collector Pins would know that the ‘Hyperion’ Studios were the first studios producing the films of Walt and his brother Roy, including Snow White & Pinocchio. The current location located at 2719 Hyperion Avenue in Los Angeles is currently home to a not so glamorous Gelson’s Supermarket. All that remains now is a plaque across the street that reads:
Site of Walt Disney’s original animation studio in Los Angeles – 2719 Hyperion Avenue – 1926 – 1940 – Cultural Heritage Board – Monument No. 163 – Date of Declaration October 6, 1976
Ah, the magic of Old Hollywood. So perhaps the show will be based on the history of the Disney studios and it’s classic characters that all led to the formation of the theme park? Considering the description of “theme park mythology” perhaps we’re in store for something more fictional and fun and fancy free if you will. When we know, you’ll know. Until then, let the wishful guessing begin!
