In case you’ve forgotten, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is just a few short months away from release, and if you needed anymore convincing to see this thing the moment it hits movie screens in December, prepare for overload. Now, the first two trailers have shown us many things. They’ve shown us the woman too rebellious for the Rebellion, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), and they shown us the ragtag group of freedom fighters she helps put together to jack those Death Star plans, but what this new trailer reveals is that the mission for Jyn is much more personal than the pending destruction of the Rebellion…
What do we mean? Well, check out the trailer below.
Yes, that’s our first look at Mads Mikkelsen in Rogue One, and – Surprise, surprise! – he’s the creator of the Death Star, or at the very least he’s key in its creation. We kind of forgot that Mikkelsen was in this, didn’t we? There was so much drama about reshoots, and comings and goings behind the scenes that we forgot that such a huge talent was in the movie, or maybe we were just Mads about seeing the actor in his upcoming villainous turn in Doctor Strange.
The trailer sets up in a tidy way that the Rogue One mission (and notice how we saw someone use the words “Rogue 1” in the trailer) is a personal one for Jyn. Not only is her father at the centre of the construction of the galaxy’s biggest and baddest WMD, but she’s got a reason to chase down Death Star commander and cape enthusiast Orson Krennic played by Ben Mendelsohn, who we see telling Darth Vader that the power of their technological terror is “immeasurable.” Likely Krennic will be reminded by the Rogue One team that the power to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force before the credits roll. Just 63 days and counting now, folks…
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be in theatres everywhere on December 16.
