In less than a month, the bold new chapter of the Harry Potter franchise begins with the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. In the beginning there was doubt that the proverbial and literal magic would be able to be carried on into a Harry Potter world before there was a Harry Potter, but the trailers and promotion have all done a lot to say to the fans that this is the same world you know and love, just some of the pieces are different. All that’s owed to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who’s writing the screenplay for the new film series, but from the sounds of things, she’s not stopping at a trilogy.
In a surprise announcement on the Fantastic Beasts Twitter feed, the production let fans know that there’ll be not one, not two, not three, but five Fantastic Beasts movies!

Five?! That’s a big commitment. Warner Bros. already confirmed that it’s at least getting a trilogy of Fantastic Beasts movies, and they’ve even been scheduled for release dates in November 2018 and November 2020. No other details have been offered about parts four and five, and it’s unknown whether are all the actors are even contracted for five movies, but it does a lot to suggest that Warners has big faith in Fantastic Beasts. Harry Potter kind of faith.
Meanwhile, Rowling went on Twitter herself and said as the studio is prepping the release of Fantastic Beasts part one, she’s almost ready to hand in her draft for part two.
I'm the screenwriter. Currently putting the finishing touches to the second one. https://t.co/smffkQ42GZ
