Make Way For Childish Landino – Donald Glover Cast As Lando Calrissian In Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff
It was just a short while ago that Donald Glover‘s (Community) name had been dropped as a front-runner to play a young Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars Han Solo Spin-off. At the time, most shrugged it off as an Internet rumor. Glover himself even acknowledged it saying ” Yep. There are rumors”. Turns out, he was playing coy, and the Internet, in its Magic 9-ball knowledge, got this one right. Star Wars.com confirmed, that yes, Glover will playing smooth-talking smuggler, Lando Calrissian.
You hear that? That’s the sound of a billion nerds jizzing themselves in unison.
Glover joins Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), who was announced to play Han Solo at Star Wars Celebration a few months ago. Star Wars broke to news via Twitter:

Per their officially press release:
As the press release puts it, “this new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.”
Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller joined in on the announcement, sharing a welcome and some laughs:
We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.
Donald Glover is a multifaceted talent, known for his stand-up comedy, his rapper alter-ego Childish Gambino, and of course, for his break out acting role as Trey Barnes on NBC’s Community.
This ranks up there with Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier or Martin Freeman as Bilbo as absolutely perfect casting. It feels insanely right. And for those feeling uneasy with the casting, if his Billy Dee impression is half as good as his Tracy Morgan impression everything will be just fine. Plus, “In Phil Lord and Chris Miller We Trust”, right?
The as-yet-untitled Han Solo movie is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
