For a movie that’s been playing things so mysteriously, there sure has been a lot revealed about Logan in the last couple of weeks. Hugh Jackman‘s curtain call as Wolverine has long been the subject of a number of rumours and potentialities, not the least of which is that the Old Man Logan inspired story would introduce us to a new Wolverine. That idea has basically been confirmed now because, as many of you may have guessed already, the character being played by young Dafne Keen in her big screen debut is indeed Laura Kinney, AKA X-23, Wolverine’s daughter and the inheritor of his mantle.
In an Instagram post, director James Mangold posted a picture of Keen that the filmmaker tagged as simply, “Laura.”
For those of you unfamiliar with the character, X-23 was introduced in the animated series X-Men: Evolution before making her comic book debut appearance in 2004 in the miniseries NYX. We learn that X-23 is a clone of Wolverine and has many of the same abilities that he does including a healing factor and adamantium-coated bone claws. She eventually takes her place alongside the X-Men and has many adventures until the death of Wolverine. Afterward, she takes up the name and costume of her biological father.
Fans have long suspected that X-23 would be revealed in Logan when agents seemingly working for Mr. Sinister arrive at the Weapon X facility in the post-credits scene for X-Men: Apocalypse and take a sample of Wolverine’s blood. Logan‘s IMDb page has also been updated to reflect the confirmation of Keen’s role.
Logan will be in theatres everywhere on March 3, 2017.
