The Punisher is out there, and he’s getting ready for a 2017 release on Netflix. Production on Punisher came up quite suddenly, but clearly Netflix and Marvel Studios know that a rolling stone gathers no moss, and with the overwhelmingly positive fan and critical reaction to Jon Bernthal‘s portrayal of the skull-shirted vigilante, it seemed right to hop on this Punisher series soon rather than latter. Now we know that Deborah Ann Woll will be reprising her Daredevil role as Karen Page in the Punisher show and that Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be playing Punisher’s sidekick and supplier Microchip, but who else will be appearing alongside Bernthal on the show?
Marvel answers with these new casting announcements:
Daniel Webber (“11.22.63”) has been cast as Lewis Walcott, a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into Civilian Society.
Jason R. Moore (“A Lonely Place for Dying”) joins as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle’s and one of the few people who knows he is alive.
Paul Schulze (“Nurse Jackie”) will play Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle.
Jaime Ray Newman (“Bates Motel”) plays Sarah Lieberman, Micro’s wife (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) whose marriage has made her life far more complicated.
Michael Nathanson (“The Knick,” “Wolf of Wall Street”) has been cast as Sam Stein, a Homeland agent who is challenged by his partnership with Dinah (Amber Rose Revah).
“We couldn’t have asked for a more talented group of actors to round out the cast of Marvel’s The Punisher,” said executive eroducer and showrunner Steve Lightfoot in a press release. “It’s a thrill to watch them each bring their characters to life with such layered, nuanced performances.”
“Marvel TV is very proud of the cast of The Punisher,” added Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb, “Each actors brings a special promise who surround Jon Bernthal’s exceptional performance.”
For the record, most of the five new casting additions are playing new characters, but a couple are not. Hoyle, Castle’s friend played by Moore, is from the Punisher comic book, and Rawlins, played by Schulze, is presumably William Rawlins, a corrupt CIA agent with tendrils in terrorism and the heroin trade. Might Rawlins be the villain of Punisher season one? I guess we’ll find out.
The Punisher will be available to stream on Netflix in its entirety in 2017.
