We cannot get enough of Stranger Things! The Netflix sleeper hit that came this summer gave us the perfect storm of nostalgia, sci-fi, horror, and just good old storytelling done well! It’s no surprise that the show would get greenlit for a second season as we want to see what will happen in the lives of Will, Mike, Eleven, and the gang as more mysteries of the Upside Down get explored. We already know that most of the gang will be returning for the second season, and the show will also be adding three new characters on the show named Max, Billy, and Roman. The show already had 80’s heavyweight Winona Ryder, and it looks like they will be adding a few more heavyweights for the second season.

The Stranger Things production crew just announced that Sean Astin and Paul Reiser have just been added to the season two cast of the show.

Sean Astin, is most famous in geek circles for his portrayal of Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of The Rings trilogy (he should have won an Oscar for Return of the King!). However, before he played that role he was Mikey Walsh in The Goonies, and “Goonies never die.” Astin has also had roles in the critically acclaimed Rudy, appearing on the fox hit show 24, and voicing Raphael on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. Astin is expected to appear on Stranger Things as Bob Newby: “a kind hearted former nerd” who went to high school with Joyce Byers and Sheriff Hopper.

Also joining the cast will be Paul Reiser. The actor is most famous for his role on the TV show Mad About You, but also has deep 80’s roots. Reiser is famous for his role in Beverly Hills Cop continuing to say “This is not my (insert place)” to avoid Inspector Todd’s wrath. Reiser is probably most famous for his role in Aliens as the sleazy corporate executive of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation who is responsible for the destruction of the LV-426 Colony for the sake of acquiring the alien for their bio-weapons division and justifiably meets his end at the jaws of one of the Xenomorphs. It looks like Reiser will be channeling his “inner Burke” as his character on Stranger Things will be Dr. Owen: a Department of Energy (the bad guys) employee whose jobs is to contain and cover up the events from the first season that happened in Hawkins, Indiana.
