After much delay, it looks like Pacific Rim two has finally begun production. In addition to that, news of the film’s title has also begun to make the rounds on the internet. All of this comes thanks to John Boyega who took a photo and posted the image to his Instagram earlier today. The photo shows a small, leather bound book with the long rumored title Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.

First day on Pacific Rim today. Here’s to a great adventure ahead ✌🏿

Due to the fact that the film is in it’s early stages, there isn’t much to discuss. However, it is known that Boyega will be playing the son of the late Stacker Pentecost (who, of course was played by Idris Alsba). He’ll also be joining Cailee Spaeny who is set to be play the female lead of the movie . Also in the film will be Scott EastwoodAdria ArjonaMackenyu MaedaJing Tian, and Levi Meaden.

Before production started, Guillermo del Toro was set to direct the film, but issues caused him to fall back as producer. This opened the door for Steven S. DeKnight to step in and take the helm. Hopefully this photo is proof that the film has finally found some stability and any fear of further cancellations can go out the door.

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is set to debut in theaters on February 23, 2018.
