The out of control train that is live action adaptations continues to roll down the tracks in Hollywood, but there are the occasional bright spots and this live action adaptation of Full Metal Alchemist looks to be one of the good ones. The movies website posted a countdown last Friday that ended at midnight and released this teaser. Check it out below.

Word is that the film will open in Japan in late winter 2017. Of course that means those fans in the USA will have to wait a bit or pirate it.

Director Fumihiko Sori had this to say about the adaptation:

I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country. There will never be a scene in which a character says something that would identify him/her as Japanese.

It is my dearest wish to turn this wonderful story into a film, and it is not an exaggeration to say that I am living for this reason.

Here’s the cast:

Here’s the manga synopsis which the film should follow fairly closely:

In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical “auto-mail” limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother’s bodies…the legendary Philosopher’s Stone.

Are you ready?
