There are plenty of people and plenty of websites that have ranked the numerous actors who have played the Joker over the years. To give you some insight, earlier this year, Variety ranked these Jokers from worst to best in this order: Jared Leto, Mark Hamill, Jack Nicholson, Cesar Romero, and Heath Ledger. Screenrant actually had Ledger as their number two Joker while Hamill was their number one. There’s no doubt that Hamill is one of the best Jokers out there. Some would argue that he is definitely the best animated version of the villain. So what do you think the man, himself, had to say about Leto’s performance in Suicide Squad? Leave it to Hamill to give a fairly neutral answer.

In an interview with Polygon, Hamill simply said that he loved his performance adding that,

“Everyone brings a different spin to the character and you have to look at each script separately. I don’t think there’s a definitive version of the Joker and I don’t think there can be. It’s like Hamlet, really. It’ll be constantly redefined.”

He also went on to say that he hasn’t seen version that’s made him say, “That was terrible.” He continued the interview by sympathizing with those who were upset in the direction that the DCEU was going in with their films. Although he managed to avoid giving any kind of specifics. Mark Hamill has always seemed like a genuinely nice person, so it’s no surprise that he would give these very general answers. He sounds like he has no intention of going out of his way to pick apart the work of another actor.

For your enjoyment, here is Hamill giving one of his best monologues ever as the Joker giving the Eulogy for Batman:
