It wasn’t too long ago that Guillermo del Toro was working on an adaptation of Justice League Dark, the comic book series about the team-up of a number of DC Comics‘ paranormal or supernatural heroes. Like a lot of the DC movies though, what seemed like a slam dunk has been subject to shake-ups; del Toro has departed the project, and Doug Liman has taken his place. But while a live-action JL Dark seems further and further away, an animated version is now actually less than a year away. In fact, the next DC Animated Universe movie is Justice League Dark, and now there’s a trailer for your viewing delight.
When there’s something strange in the neighbourhood, who you gonna call? Justice League Dark!!!
When demonic threats descend upon the Earth, the Justice League finds they need expertise they do not have in the supernatural, so Batman turns to John Constantine, who puts together a group of magical heroes that can turn the tide. Matt Ryan will reprise the roll of Constantine from the live-action series of the same name he starred in on NBC in 2014 and he will be joined on the team by Camilla Luddington as Zatanna, Nicholas Turturro Deadman, Ray Chase as Etrigan the Demon, Enrico Colantoni as Felix Faust, and Roger Cross as Swamp Thing. Present S.H.I.E.L.D. director Jason O’Mara will reprise the role of Batman, while Jerry O’Connell plays Superman and Rosario Dawson plays Wonder Woman.
Justice League Dark will be rated-R for “some disturbing violence.” It will out on DVD, Blu-ray and digital HD sometime early in 2017.
