This has been an interesting year for comic book crossovers. From Marvel, we got Civil War II and from DC Comics we got Rebirth. Both have been widely successful as they have gone across many different issues connecting various characters together. Rebirth has been credited in realigning the DC universe and has substantially increased sales for the publication. It looks like DC is not yet done pushing interesting storylines together.
DC comics, partnering with BOOM! Studios, will be having a crossover comic combining the Green Lantern with Planet of The Apes. The proposed six-issue miniseries Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern will be written by Robbie Thompson (Silk) and Justin Jordan (Green Lantern: New Guardians) where characters from the Planet of the Apes franchise will come in contact with a power ring and the Green Lantern Corps will have to investigate. Please see the below synopsis:
“When Taylor goes missing, Cornelius investigates and discovers an ancient ring, unlike anything he has ever seen. As its power echoes through the stars, the Guardians of the Universe must reveal to their Lanterns a secret they had hoped would remain buried. With the Green Lantern Corps, led by Hal Jordan, racing to get to the source of this power before Sinestro can get his hands on it, they will discover a truth that will change them forever on…the Planet of the Apes!”
The comic series arrives February 1, 2017, and will be interesting, to say the least. In a million years, those two franchises together would not have been on anyone’s radar. However, this isn’t the first crossover that Green Lantern has been a part of, though. They previously had a Star Trek crossover as well as a crossover with the xenomorphs of the Alien franchise as well. So maybe tangling with the Planet of the Apes, might not be so far-fetched. Either way, this looks interesting!
