This year, for the first time, you will be able to catch the Doctor Who Christmas Special in movie theaters, as “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” becomes available for two nights only on the big screen. The event will take place in cinemas nationwide on Tuesday 27th December and Thursday 29th December at 7:00pm local time.
The screenings will include the traditional full hour-long episode, plus two exclusive bonus features – Christmas Doctor Who Extra (starring Peter Capaldi, Matt Lucas and executive producer Steven Moffat), which takes a look behind the scenes of the Christmas 2016 episode, and A New Kind of Superhero, which looks at Doctor Who’s concept of a modern superhero.
In the upcoming 2016 Special, the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) joins an investigative journalist (Charity Wakefield) and a superhero, in a bid to save New York from an impending alien menace. The Return of Doctor Mysterio will also feature Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless), Matt Lucas (Alice In Wonderland, Bridesmaids), Adetomiwa Edun (Lucifer, Bates Motel), Aleksandar Jovanovic and Logan Hoffman.

The 60-minute episode be written by Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennet, and directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark). As well as being available in theatres, it will of course air on BBC America on Christmas Day.
