The key creative mind behind a lot of Marvel‘s most interesting and complex twists and turns in the cinematic universe, there is no shortage of cool new surprises coming from James Gunn. He is still, slowly, through all kinds of interviews, appearances and social media, revealing deeper and deeper levels that have gone yet unnoticed in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. An incredibly intricately created movie, Guardians of the Galaxy is swollen with Marvel lore and pop culture references and, as audiences have come to expect from their big movies, tons of Easter Eggs.
The Easter Eggs spotted so far include obscure cameos from stars including Nathan Fillion and Seth Green, creatures and characters from throughout the Marvel Universe – that covers movies, television shows and comic books – just dotted around the background of various scenes and tributes to the key figures in pop culture that inspired the people who made the movie.
But even though the film is now over two years old – although it doesn’t always feel like it – some mysteries remain unsolved.
Ever the accessible star, Gunn invited a Q and A session earlier today on his Facebook fan page while he was stuck in traffic – but, he assures us, not the one driving. He was asked if he would ever reveal the elusive final Easter Egg and fans were told that he would not. He would leave it up to them to find it for themselves for as long as it takes.
This didn’t sit well with a number of fans and one even accused Gunn of faking the entire thing, claiming that there was no Easter Egg left to find, that Gunn was “the ultimate troll”.
In defence of his good name, Gunn readily offered to put his money where his mouth is:
“If there is no Easter egg I will give you a hundred thousand dollars – copy this post – I will consider it a legally binding contract – signed, James Gunn.“
