It looks like Kevin Smith is once again making headlines, and this time it’s not because of his involvement in The Flash and Supergirl. Smith is making noise again because of expressed interest in making his once Superman Lives script into an animated movie to join the ranks of Justice League: Flashpoint and All-Star Superman. In addition to that, the Clerks director also said that a movie like Bedknobs And Broomsticks could be remade and that he would be interested in directing such a film.

Okay, well technically Smith is making the news because of his involvement with Supergirl. During a Facebook Live event regarding this involvement directing a recent episode, he did a Q&A in which he was asked about seeing his script for Superman Lives turned into a DC Universe Animated film. Here was his response:

“Oh like based on my script, based on the Superman Lives script? That would be tight, dude. I’m not going to lie, that would be fun to see. That’s something I worked on 20 years ago at this point, so that would be really amazing to kind of see, like they turn it into a cartoon and get the people to do the voices. Nic Cage is still around and stuff. And I wanted Michael Rooker for my Lex Luthor, so that would be amazing. Um, but, you know, I’m game. That ain’t up to me, kids. That’s up to the good folks at Warner Bros. and stuff, but if they were ever to call and say hey, we want to do a cartoon version of that Superman script we wrote, believe me I’d be like, that’d be dope, man. You know you close all loops in life, one way or another, and that would be a nice way to close that loop.”

Jason O’Mara had been the recent voice of Batman in Batman: Bad Blood. Although, Kevin Conroy did return to reprise his role in Batman: The Killing Joke. But the idea of Nicholas Cage taking on the role (even animated) – why the hell not. Even better is Smith’s casting of Rooker as Lex Luthor. And in case you need reminding of who he is. He’s the blue guy from Guardians of the Galaxy. Which blue guy? This one:

Rooker is also well known for playing Merle Dixon (Daryl’s brother) from The Walking Dead. DC has been showing a lot of love for Smith lately, letting him direct episodes for The Flash and Supergirl. Maybe they’ll do him the favor of making his wish come true.

In other Smith news, during a recent episode of his Fatman On Batman podcast, he discussed how it surprised him to learn that actor David Harewood hails from the UK. This then led to mentioning how Harewood is considered posh and then Smith began singing “Portabello Road.” Which finally led to Smith talking about one of his favorite films being Bedknobs And Broomsticks. On the show he said,

“Bedknobs and Broomsticks can be remade today. That movie can so f–king work today. In a world where Disney’s like, Pete’s Dragon! and sh-t like that… Hey! I will fucking suck dick, Disney, to make the remake of Bedknobs and Broomsticks.”

Considering all that was happening when Smith mentioned the movie, it sounds like he was just hyping himself and the idea up because that’s what Smith tends to do. Once he gets into the idea of something, he becomes overly excited about it and the prospects of following through with the idea. It’s probably what has helped make him successful in his endeavors, but how serious he is in actually following through with the idea of remaking Bedknobs And Broomsticks has yet to be determined. Also, based on the amount of “emphasis” he put into wanting to remake the film, it wouldn’t be surprising if Disney passed on Smith as a potential director for one of it’s beloved stories.
