CBS All Access‘ Star Trek: Discovery continues casting with the addition of Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth) and Anthony Rapp (The Knick). The pair joins Michelle Yeoh as bridge members on the new Star Trek series that will air a pilot and then become exclusive on CBS All Access. What roles will the two be filling?
While rumored, now we can confirm that Yoeh will play Captain Georgiou of the Federation Starship Shenzhou. Jones will play Lt. Saru, science officer a member of an alien species new to the Star Trek universe. Rapp will play Lt. Stamets, astromycologist, fungus expert, and Starfleet science officer aboard the starship Discovery.
Now the pair could both serve on the Discovery, there are more than one science officer on each starship, but perhaps Jones will be serving on the Starship Shenzhou to start out?
There should be more casting announcements soon, as the project moves forward. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. Will long time Star Trek fans pay to see their fandom online? Will there be commercials during the show, CBS On Demand currently does not allow fast forwarding and has the regular commercial breaks forcing fans to sit through the entire hour. Will Star Trek: Discovery become a highly pirated show?
