Despite being one of the most talked about movies of 2016, it seems rather unlikely that we’ll see a sequel to the remade Ghostbusters from Paul Feig. The exact status of the franchise is in questions with Feig himself previously confirming no involvement on his part, while producer Ivan Reitman says that there are plenty of future Ghostbusters movies still in development. What they are and when they might come out, we don’t know, but how about something more immediate? For those of you that wanted more of a shared universe feel between the two Ghostbusters teams, you’re in luck because IDW is bringing it to you, in comic form.
The Nerdist had the exclusive reveal that IDW Comics will be releasing Ghostbusters 101 in the first quarter of 2017. The limited series written by Erik Burham with art by Dan Schoening and Luis Antonio Delgado will create a dimensional crossrift between the past of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore, and the present of Abby Yates, Erin Gilbert, Jillian Holtzmann and Patty Tolan. Here’s the plot description of Ghostbusters 101 from IDW:
“Let’s Do The Space-Warp Again!” Before they began investigating the supernatural, most of the original Ghostbusters were teachers… and they’ve decided it’s time they start sharing their knowledge again. But when their first batch of students start poking around the firehouse and accidentally set in motion the merging of two universes (it’s easier than you’d think) Venkman, Stantz, Zeddemore, and Spengler will need all the help they can get to put things right! And who do you think will Answer The Call? (If you guessed Holtzmann, Yates, Tolan, and Gilbert… you get a gold star!) It’s a brand new inter-dimensional meeting of the minds, starting here!
“I can honestly say that it’s something a ton of fans have been demanding since the very hint of a new Ghostbusters movie; I get asked at cons and social media a lot: when will there be a crossover?” said Burham. “I’m so excited for it — introducing these characters to each other and letting their individual quirks mix? Just going by past crossovers, that’s a whole lot of fun.”
Ghostbusters 101 will be on comic book store shelves on March 22, 2017.
