The nerd community took a major hit with Ryan Reynold’s Green Lantern in 2011. Reynolds even took some pot shots at the flick in last year’s Deadpool, but all jokes aside, will the upcoming Green Lantern Corps be any good? It’s already coming into a questionable cinematic universe alongside DC’s lackluster releases of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad so hopes are high and fingers are crossed that the next venture into the world of Hal Jordan and company fares better than it did the last time. Fellow nerd and filmmaker Duncan Jones has gone to Twitter to share his opinions on what we should get when Green Lantern Corps hits theaters in 2020.

Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code and Warcraft) doesn’t have a stake in the upcoming film, but that didn’t stop him from hitting the Twitterverse with a few choice comments on what he wants to see Hal Jordan and John Stewart doing when they return to the silver screen in a few years.

If you have ever read the comics, you know that pretty much hits the mark on who Hal Jordan is. He is a jock and fighter pilot who comes up with some crazy ways to handle each situation he finds himself. Whether it’s by making a giant green boxing glove or even a lawnmower the size of a starship, the man can think on his toes.

Another poignant notion, though it does depart from the source material. In the comics, a Green Lantern‘s ring is powered by his (or her, it’s all about equal opportunity in the DC universe) lantern. It needs to be recharged every 24 hours or it’s just a clunky piece of costume jewelry.

Jones’ points are interesting and should be taken into consideration by any screenwriters thinking about how to adapt the source material. Not much has been released about the upcoming film, but Warner Bros. and DC have released the following synopsis via iMdb:

The story centers on the Green Lanterns of Earth-Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart and Guy Gardner-and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps as they fight an interstellar war against the Sinestro Corps, an army led by the former Green Lantern Sinestro who are armed with yellow power rings and seek a universe ruled through fear.

This story somewhat mirrors one from the books in 2006 where Sinestro (Hal Jordan’s mentor turned bad guy) returns and teams with Parallax to create a new corps ruled through the yellow power of fear. Without dropping too many details as to the plot line the film looks to be following, we learn the secret of the yellow impurity and how willpower was chosen to govern the cosmos instead of fear. This story line led into one called Blackest Night, which turned the DC comics universe upside-down for a little while.

Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to be released sometime in 2020 and will be ingrained into the DCEU alongside forthcoming films like Justice League, Aquaman, and Shazam.
