Fans will have to wait longer for CBS‘s return to Star Trek on the small screen. Star Trek: Discovery won’t make the scheduled May premiere date. Reasons for the delay are not detailed, just the usual “What’s best for the series” vagueness. Star Trek: Discovery did cast an interesting and long time Star Trek character, Spock’s father Sarek.
Sarek is an important part of the Star Trek Mythos and one of the defining issues Spock faced growing into the Man/Vulcan he became. James Frain (Gotham, Grimm) is taking on the role and he really looks the part of a younger Sarek.
Here’s the CBS press release for the delay:
Production on ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show. We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows.
