What a year for Sterling K. Brown! He had a key role as Christopher Darden in The People VS O.J. Simpson, he co-stars in the biggest new series on broadcast TV This Is Us, and he was recently cast in a secretive new part for the upcoming Marvel Studios movie Black Panther. When you’ve got this kind of momentum in Hollywood you’ve just got to keep going, so it’s understandable that Brown might want to add another franchise to his resume. So now, following in the footsteps of Darden, Brown is committing to chasing down another killer… from outer space! The Predator.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brown now joins a cast that includes Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, and Keegan-Michael Key in the new Predator film being co-written and directed by Shane Black. There’s no official word yet on the plot of the film or where it falls in the franchise which includes John McTiernan‘s original film (that co-starred Black), it’s 1990 sequel, two Alien Vs Predator movies, and the 2010 reboot Predators, but rumours have persisted though that Arnold Schwarzenegger might appear in some capacity as his Predator character Dutch.
The film will likely begin production soon to meet it’s release date early next year, but if you’re having concerns about what Black is cooking, the production assures that there’s some Predator awesomeness coming soon to a theatre near you. “The writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh,” said producer John Davis to Collider. “I’m telling you, you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.'”
The Predator is currently scheduled for a February 9, 2018 release.
