It wasn’t long after the release of Suicide Squad that it was officially announced that Margot Robbie would be returning to the silver screen with her tattered hotpants and bubblegum dyed hair to reprise the role of Gotham’s colourful harlequin, Harley Quinn. The movie is suspected to step away from the relationship between Harley and the Jared Leto‘s Joker, instead moving onto the female influences in Harley’s life in the forms of Catwoman and Poison Ivy in the Gotham City Sirens story. Since then, though, not a lot else about the movie has been revealed.
Still, there’s more than enough information to get not only fans but also a fair few actors excited about the project. It has been reported that Megan Fox has been interested in the role of Poison Ivy for more than a month already. Now, Harley Quinn Smith, 17-year-old daughter of filmmaker and comedian Kevin Smith, has expressed – quite avidly – her own interest in a part in the movie.
She told ComicBook:
“Before they even mentioned that she was going to make a spinoff, I talked to my agent and I was like, ‘Honestly, I know this isn’t even a project yet, but I just want you to know that when the day comes that they do start putting this into production I need you to make sure, if there is a young Harley Quinn role, that no one other than Harley Quinn plays that role.’”
It’s no surprise that Smith would be enthusiastic about playing the role of her namesake, but whether or not the option to do will be available is another matter.
With so little information about the plot of the movie, there’s no guarantee that a young Harley Quinn role will even be included. And if there is, there is always the chance that the studio might prefer to save the cost of hiring a second actor and just let the 26-year-old Margot Robbie play the younger version herself.
