Hopefully, 2017 doesn’t keep last years trend, but it’s already off to a bad start. We have already lost such greats as Mary Tyler Moore, Miguel Ferrer, and Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka among others. Unfortunately, another legend of stage, voice, film, and television has passed away. Legendary actor John Hurt passed away today. Hurt had previously been diagnosed with early-stage pancreatic cancer in 2015. The cancer was believed to be in remission, however, it appears that Hurt has passed away shortly after his 77th birthday.
The BAFTA and Golden Globe Award-winning actor has appeared in many famous film and television roles. Appearing in such films as I, Claudius, The Elephant Man, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Hellboy, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, V For Vendetta, and countless others. Hurt recently appeared in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special as The War Doctor. Hurt is probably most famous within the geek community for his role as Kane in Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi classic, Alien and had one of the most awesome and shocking deaths in film history.
Knight Hurt was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2015, the same year he was diagnosed with cancer. He is survived by his wife Anwen Rees-Myers.
