When he first was announced to be Batman, the Internet violently reacted to Ben Affleck. Fans thought that he was going to be the worst part of Batman v Superman. However, he turned out to the best part of the movie and gave us a very strong Batman. Although the movie wasn’t a critical hit, fans were excited for this new take on the caped crusader.
It was announced that there would be a Batman solo film coming on the upcoming DCEU film, The Batman. Fans were even more excited as Ben Affleck would direct the film as well. After all, he is a competent director. His films Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo were all critically acclaimed. It’s an almost an absolute certainty that he would direct an awesome Batman movie. However, in the past few months, there has been a back and forth as to if he would direct the movie. At first, there were rumors that he did not like the script, and a variety of other reasons.
It’s now been confirmed that Affleck will not be directing The Batman. Today, Affleck released a statement on the decision.
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
Warner Bros stated that they “fully supports Ben Affleck’s decision and remains committed to working with him to bring a standalone Batman picture to life.” They also say that the low critical and commercial performances of his last directorial film Live By Night, did not impact this decision at all. Now the task is to find a new director. Who would be a good replacement to direct the upcoming film?
