Prepare for the Ocean’s Eleven extended universe! That’s the message from this first image of the eight ladies that make up the crew of this new entry into the franchise sweepstakes, Ocean’s 8. We’ve heard for a while now about the development of this project, a parallel heist film series featuring a gang of all female slick criminals led by the sister of Danny Ocean, the titular character of three movies, which was a remake of a 1960 film starring the Rat Pack, played by George Clooney. Will this female-centric reboot fair better than another that comes to mind?
That’s tough to say. In fact it’s tough to say what’s going on in this probably New York subway train pictured above, which seems pretty empty aside from the eight ladies in the crew. From left to right, we’ve got: Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), Lou (Cate Blanchett), Nine Ball (Rihanna), Amita (Mindy Kaling), Constance (Awkwafina), Rose (Helena Bonham Carter), Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway), and Tammy (Sarah Paulson). What they’re doing on this train, where they’re going, and who they’re going to steal from when they get there, has yet to be revealed.
Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) is directing the film, which will feature Damian Lewis as the bad guy the ladies will be stealing from. Olivia Munn, Dakota Fanning, James Corden and Richard Armitage will also have roles in the movie, and Matt Damon is expected to reprise his Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen role as Linus in a cameo.
Ocean’s 8 will be in theatres everywhere on June 8, 2018.
