Things are finally happening for Marvel and ABC Family’s (Now called Freeform) long-gestating Cloak & Dagger series as the two lead roles have been cast. Joe Pokaski will be the showrunner for the series based on Ed Hannigan and Bill Mantlo‘s pair of superhero teens. Olivia Holt (I Didn’t Do It) will play Tandy Bowen (Dagger) and Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of) will play Tyrone Johnson (Cloak). You can check out the character descriptions below.
Tandy (Oliva Holt – “Dagger”) Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.
Tyrone (Aubrey Joesph – “Cloak”) Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes Forever.
The comic book stories involving Cloak & Dagger were pretty intense, drug abuse, gang violence, and race relations were C&D’s bread and butter. Their street level crime fighting eventually transformed into the more traditional superhero fare as the pair were discovered to be mutants all along and the drugs that initially thought to give them their powers really just released their mutant abilities… like Deadpool at Weapon X.
Cloak & Dagger should be hitting television screens sometime in early 2018.
