Part of the fun of Supergirl is seeing actors from other superhero movie and TV shows in new and/or different roles. Smallville’s Supergirl Laura Vandervoort appeared as the villainous Indigo, original Supergirl Helen Slater plays Supergirl’s adaptive mother Eliza, 70s Wonder Woman Lynda Carter recently played POTUS, and Dean Cain, who played the Man of Steel on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, has portrayed Supergirl’s adoptive father Jeremiah. Now there’s news today that the Lois to Cain’s Clark is joining the CW’s Girl of Steel program, but Teri Hatcher‘s role is so far super-mysterious.
According to Deadline, Hatcher is joining Supergirl in “a mysterious new role that will become the new Big Bad of Season 2.” Speculation abounds as to who Hatcher might be playing, but this isn’t the first time that the actress has returned to the DC Universe. Hatcher previously played Lois Lane’s mother in a brief appearance during the tenth season of Smallville. “No offense to any of the wonderful actresses who have also played the part, but Teri Hatcher is my all time favorite Lois Lane,” says Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. To have her come back to the SuperWorld in a completely different part is an unbelievable gift to me, Greg, and the fans.”
Hatcher played Lois Lane for four seasons on Lois & Clark from 1993 to 1997. Interestingly, Hatcher will be the second person from Desperate Housewives to appear on Supergirl as a villain this season after Brenda Strong, who appeared in the first half of the season as Lillian Luthor, the head of CADMUS.
Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 pm on the CW.
