Fans of the recent string of Call of Duty games complete with Zombie Mode as well as those who have played Return to Castle Wolfenstein: rejoice! A movie is being developed by the amazing and talented J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and it’s all about Nazi Zombies! Abrams has been brought on to produce the project, which will be directed by Julius Avery (Jerrycan, Yardbird, and Son of a Gun) with writers Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips, and Shattered Glass) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Vacancy, and The Hole).
So far there have been scant details on the project, but what has been released is a rough storyline. After American and allied troops parachuted behind enemy lines on D-Day, they found some Nazis… but what the history books have clearly left out was that some of those Nazis were of the undead variety! The film is being titled OVERLORD, which history buffs will likely recall was the codename for the Operation to invade Normandy, France on D-Day.
Here is the official synopsis that was released early today by Bad Robot:
“Two paratroopers who are caught behind enemy lines after their plane crashes on a mission to destroy a German Radio Tower in a small town outside of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. After reaching their target, the two paratroopers come to realize that besides fighting off Nazi soldiers, they also must combat against supernatural forces that are a result of a secret Nazi experiment.”
OVERLORD has been in development hell since 2007 when it was in the hands of Paramount but had difficulty finding a director. Variety has reported the studio’s efforts to recruit some talented actors may have already begun so the project may be closer to reality than it has ever been before.
