It’s getting so that there’s going to be a Marvel show on every channel, every day of the week! Following up on announcements concerning the casing of Cloak and Dagger earlier this week, Marvel TV is now announcing the cast for their other teen superhero show, Runaways. The hotly anticipated series based on the fan favourite Marvel Comic has been a long time coming, but the eventual Hulu series now takes a giant step forward now that we know the faces that that will be appearing on the show as various beloved characters.
Courtesy of Deadline, here’s the breakdown of the cast of actors, and who they’re all playing:
Rhenzy Feliz (Casual) is Alex Wilder, a loud-and-proud nerd. Admittedly a bit of a loner, Alex spends much of his free time playing video games, but deep down, what he wants most is to reunite his group of childhood friends
Lyrica Okano (The Affair, Unforgettable) plays Nico Minoru, who is tough, intelligent, independent and embodies teenage angst. A budding “Wiccan,” Nico’s carefully crafted goth appearance isolates her from her peers and family, but maybe what she really needs is someone to talk to.
Virginia Gardner (Goat, Little Bitches) is Karolina Dean. Model-perfect exterior, with a lot going on behind her professionally whitened smile, she is burdened by the lofty expectations and responsibilities put upon her by her parents. Underneath her veneer of privilege and perfection, Karolina is experiencing a newfound eagerness to explore her identity and pursue her own desires.
Ariela Barer (New Girl, One Day at a Time) is Gert Yorkes is a purple-haired, bespectacled, contemporary riot grrrl. Never passing up a moment to stand on a soapbox, Gert sometimes wields her persona as a brash social justice warrior to mask her true feelings.
Gregg Sulkin (Faking It, Anti Social) plays Chase Stein, a lacrosse-playing, high school heartthrob. While many write him off as a dumb jock, Chase exhibits flashes of untapped brilliance in engineering, not unlike his wildly successful father.
Allegra Acosta (100 Things to Do Before High School, Just Add Magic) is Molly Hernandez, the youngest and most innocent member of her friend group, who is known for her peppy positivity and a deep yearning to belong.
All that’s left is to cast Old Lace, the genetically-engineered dinosaur from the 87th century. Just kidding. That one’s probably going to be played by a CGI creation.
The Runaways series will be produced by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage along with Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb. The original comic book series, co-created by Brian K. Vaughan, is about a group of teens who learn their parents belong to a league of super-villains so they decide to rebel and go their own way. The series has won numerous awards including an Eisner and a Harvey. There’s no word yet on when the series might appear on Hulu.
We’ll keep you posted with all the latest developments.
