Remember a year and a half ago before The Force Awakens came out when Star Wars merchandise suddenly popped up and started appearing everywhere? Well that was actually a marketing trick by Disney to get people excited about the new movie and to sell more toys called Star Wars Force Friday. Disney has just announced that they are going to be doing the same thing this year with Force Friday II in preparation for The Last Jedi release. This year the event will take place on September 1st.
In honor of this announcement, Disney has released a teaser image of this marketing campaign featuring our three new Star Wars heroes, Rey, Poe, and Finn
The image doesn’t reveal that much other than Rey sporting a new hairstyle and holding Luke’s lightsaber, but hey, it’s enough to get Star Wars fans excited!
Jimmy Pitaro, chairman of Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media had this to say about the announcement:
“The first Star Wars Force Friday event was truly unique, uniting fans across five continents in an unprecedented global live unboxing event ahead of thousands of midnight openings at retail. We’re excited to confirm that Star Wars Force Friday is back for The Last Jedi. Plans for this year’s worldwide event are top secret, but expect something befitting the excitement around the next episode of the Star Wars saga.”
The nature of the products is all hush hush until September 1st, so start marking those calendars.
