It’s just two weeks until the March 3rd opening for James Mangold‘s Logan and there’s already positive buzz about the film and its young star Dafne Keen. Mangold is ready to take on an X-23 spinoff if one is in the cards. FOX will be looking for something to fill the void of Hugh Jackman‘s exit from the very profitable X-Man movie franchise. Here’s what Mangold has to say about a spinoff.
In an interview with We Got This Covered Mangold says:
I think Dafne [Keen] is incredible in the film and I would love to see another film about that character and that’s certainly something I’d be involved in. For me that was one of the big additions I brought to the table, this decision to try to make the film about family and to try to insert Laura and the pressures that would put and the idea about Charles ailing.
If this truly is Hugh Jackman’s last Wolverine rodeo, FOX will be looking to recast Wolverine or at least have a replacement character to hold things down until that transition occurs. If we can’t have the Hugh Jackman/Wolverine-Ryan Reynolds/Deadpool movie, perhaps a Deadpool/X-23 movie might work.
In fact, that might be the best option for X-23 since Logan is set in the future and there are not many mutants left. Deadpool would be one mutant expected to survive just about anything. Bring in his time-traveling buddy Cable and perhaps that’s how you get X-23 back in time to play with other mutants.
