Like Constantine and Preacher before it, another Vertigo title is heading to the television screen. The newest addition to the family is a series called Scalped, based on the comics by Jason Aaron and R.M. Guéra, and it will be coming to WGN America.
Having ordered a pilot in 2016, Scalped, is now finally underway. Deadline reports that the upcoming TV series has found their leading man in actor.
Alex Meraz, who will play the role of Dashiell Bad Horse in the upcoming comic book adaptation.
Scalped is a crime noir piece set on a Native American Reservation. It’s a serious story that follows the trials of the reservation inhabitants as they deal with real-world issues such as crime, poverty, drugs and more while trying to hold on to what makes them who they are. Scalped was written by Jason Aaron with art from R.M. Guera and has received a ton of critical praise. The series started out in 2007 and progressed over 60 issues before it finally came to an end.
Meraz, who is Native American descendant of the Purepecha (Tarasco) Nation, previously appeared in another comic book adaptation, last year’s Suicide Squad, with additional appearances in Bone Tomahawk and The Twilight Saga. He joins Lily Gladstone in the cast, who is set to play Carol Red Crow, the estranged daughter of Chief Lincoln Red Crow and an old friend of Dash’s, who reunites with him after he returns to the reservation.
The script for the show is being put together my Doug Jung (Banshee), who will also act as executive producer for the show.
Scalped currently has no release date.
