In 2014, Keanu Reeves’ career got a much-needed adrenaline boost with the premiere of John Wick. The tale of a secret underworld of assassins, and one in particular, who unleashes hell on everyone after the death of his dog (and the theft of his car). Given the surprise success of the first John Wick film, it’s a no-brainer that they greenlit a sequel. This past weekend, John Wick: Chapter 2 hit theaters and once again, Director Chad Stahelski and Reeves caught lightning in a bottle again. The sequel gave us a perfection of well-choreographed mayhem. We here at Nerdbastards loved the sequel. It’s no surprise that there will be another John Wick movie in the pipeline.
Chad Stahelski, writer Derek Kolstad, and John Wick himself, Reeves have expressed interest in a John Wick: Chapter 3 movie. Reeves recently spoke on the Empire Podcast about potential ideas for the next chapter in the John Wick saga.
“I think the opening of the film should be Wick just trying to escape from New York. Literally trying to get off the island. Maybe he asks [Lawrence Fisburne’s character] the Bowery King for help. Maybe John Leguizamo comes and helps me out. “John, I can’t do it, you’re excommunicado!” Maybe the High Table shows up. And then the High Table starts firing guns. And then maybe this kind of thing starts to happen between the High Table and Continental? Maybe John is the activator of this confrontation, and perhaps there’s a war? Wouldn’t that be awesome?!”
For those who remember Reeves as Neo, “The One” from The Matrix trilogy, fans have always wanted a possible sequel after The Matrix Revolutions ended. Sure, Neo was dead, but he also had “died” 5 times before, and the final shot of the movie left it open-ended as to a possible return of Neo in the franchise. When asked by Yahoo Movies, Reeves said he’d be open to coming back, but he had a few stipulations.
“Wachowskis would have to be involved. They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not? People die, stories don’t people in stories don’t.”
Both ideas sound fascinating. We know Reeves will return for a third John Wick movie and it will probably be John versus the entire assassins’ world. But how awesome would it be for a continuation of The Matrix? There was an MMORPG, The Matrix Online, which continued the story after the end of the third film, so anything’s possible.
