February 20, 2017 is a day that will live in infamy; it’s the start of production on the young Han Solo adventure and the next standalone Star Wars Story film in the franchise. Details are still scarce about what part of Han Solo’s life will be revealed in the course of the film, which has long been a dream project of Empire Strikes Back screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, but we now know that it will definitely have something to do with the Millennium Falcon. Have you ever seen a happier group of people? Well, you would be too if you were behind the stink of the Falcon as well!
Clockwise from left to right we have co-director Chris Miller, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Joonas Suotamo, Donald Glover and co-director Phil Lord. Ehrenreich plays Solo of course while Glover plays the young Lando Calrissian. Clarke plays an unnamed female droid, Waller-Bridge will take on an as-yet unknown role, and Harrelson will play Solo’s mentor in smuggling. Suotamo is reprising the role of Chewbacca after his he first successful turn filling the fur boots of Chewie as Peter Mayhew‘s camera double in The Force Awakens. Missing from the photo is Westworld’s Thandie Newton, whose role is also mysterious.
“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” Lord and Miller said in a statement. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”
The release also announced several of the key members of the crew:
