Another day, another Inhumans casting announcement. Following up on yesterday’s news that Anson Mount has been cast as Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans, we have found out who will play his queen. Serinda Swan has been cast as Medusa, an Inhuman whose ability is prehensile hair, which means that she can use her hair to grab and pull like other appendages, specifically hands and fingers. This is an important role to fill on the ABC series because not only is Medusa the Queen of the Inhumans, and the wife of Black Bolt, she’s also an object of obsession for the series’ main antagonist, Black Bolt’s mad brother Maximus.
“Serinda empowers Medusa’s regal glory and still maintains a relatability that synced perfectly with the character. She is nothing short of wonderful,” said Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb with glowing praise in Entertainment Weekly. “Serinda Swan brings a regal elegance, as well as a sense of great inner strength and fierce determination, to the role of Medusa. I couldn’t be happier to have her as our Queen of Attilan,” added Inhumans showrunner Scott Buck.
Swan is perhaps best known for regular TV roles as a DEA agent on Graceland and a firefighter on Chicago Fire, but she’s also had a long and varied nerdy career as well, predominately as the Smallville iteration of Zatanna. But Swan has also appeared on Supernatural and The Tomorrow People, and has been featured in the movies Creature, Tron Legacy, and was Aphrodite in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightening Thief. So with a background like that she should take to Medusa like a fish to water. Swan joins Mount and Game of Thrones’ Iwan Rheon as the members of the cast announced so far for Inhumans.
The new series from ABC and Marvel Studios will premiere later this year after a two-week run in IMAX theatres. Stay tuned for all the latest developments.
