Netflix’s comedic remake of the 80’s wrestling show, G.L.O.W. The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling has just released a teaser trailer. G.L.O.W. was a pro-wrestling counterpart to the WWE in the 1980’s that focused on a colorful cast of all female wrestlers. In actuality, the majority of the stars had no previous training in the ring.

The series from Orange Is The New Black and Weeds creator Jenji Kohan.  is a fictionalized comedy show based on the original series. The original show ran from 1986 to 1990 and was filmed at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. The original G.L.O.W. was run more like a traditional TV show as opposed to the WWE. Seasons and casting changes were commonplace while many of the shows stars were dancers, actresses, and stuntwomen looking to catch their big break.

The official Twitter account for the GLOW series released a 15-second teaser on Tuesday, as its first-ever tweet. The spot featured 1980s neon lights with which GLOW was associated, while the soundtrack features crowd hand-claps (to the tune of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’) and the tagline “The Gorgeous Ladies Are Coming.”

Here’s the teaser:

A second teaser was also release, depicting some of the ladies, though no one that looks like their part of the main cast; just a couple of jobbers (Wrestling term for no name bodies that lose).  Here’s the second teaser:

G.L.O.W. stars Alison Brie and Marc Maron, with Betty Gilpin, Jackie Tohn, and Ellen Wong also listed among the cast.

The official plot synopsis for Netflix’s G.L.O.W. follows:

“Inspired by the short-lived but beloved show from the 80s, GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, coked-up B-movie director who now must lead 14 women on the journey to wrestling stardom.”

All ten episodes of G.L.O.W. Season 1 will be released on Netflix on June 23rd, 2017
