Alexander Siddig is about to add another nerdy franchise to his acting belt as he has been cast to play Ra’s Al Ghul in Gotham. Best known for his role as Julian Bashir on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and lately as Doran Martell on Game of Thrones, Siddig is a fantastic choice for Batman’s greatest enemy/frenemy that keeps coming back thanks to the Lazarus Pit. Check out the casting announcement below.
Here’s the press release:
Alexander Siddig (Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders, 24, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, DaVinci’s Demons) has been cast to recur as supervillain Ra’s Al Ghul on Gotham.
As Bruce (David Mazouz) pulls the veil off the COURT OF OWLS, he finds the man pulling the strings is the enigmatic and powerful RA’S AL GHUL. With his past shrouded in mystery, Ra’s Al Ghul uses cunning and deception to lay waste to his foes. As the leader of an international criminal organization known as the LEAGUE OF SHADOWS, Ra’s Al Ghul will prove himself to be Bruce’s most dangerous adversary yet.
The third season of Gotham will return to FOX on Monday, April 24th at 8/7c. Siddig will first appear later this season.
Siddig is very good at playing the deep thinker and should bring an interesting take on the character that Liam Neeson first brought to the big screen in Batman Begins. Does this mean we’ll also meet Ra’s Al Ghul’s daughter Talia? While a full-blown romance is kind of silly while Bruce is in the 8th grade, setting the foundation for a future romance would make sense. If Ghul is the one behind the Court of Owls, that means he is the one ultimately behind the death of Bruce’s parents.
It should be in interesting season.
