Ken Leung, right now, may be one of the most recognizable actors within the geek realm of Hollywood. He hasn’t been a leading guy and he hasn’t been much of a supporting character, but if you saw him, you’d recognize him as that guy who was in that movie. In all likelihood, the last time you saw his face in a recognizable role was in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He played one of the generals in the situation room during the scene where everyone was discussing how to destroy the new Death Star. More specifically he was that Asian guy. However, after years of being “that guy,” the time has come to step into a more leading role because he’s been cast as Karnak in the new Inhumans series on ABC.
If you’ve been keeping up with the latest comic book series, Karnak is the guy in the green hood with the reallt big head. Also known as the cousin of Blackbolt (Anson Mount), who can destroy buildings with the sound of his voice and is the leader of the Inhumans, Karnak is his most trusted advisor and has the ability to find and exploit the weakness in anything. In addition to him and Blackbolt, the series will also include Medusa (Serinda Swan) and Maximus (Iwan Rheon). Medusa’s hair is extremely strong and durable, and she has the ability to control it at her own will. She’s also known as the Queen of the Inhumans while Blackbolt is the King. Maximus is Blackbolt’s brother and has the ability of super intellect as well as other mental powers like the ability to cause short-term amnesia and to exchange his consciousness with someone else.
Written and executive produced by Scott Buck, there is no word if the show will cross into the world of Agents of SHIELD, but seeing as how the show does feature numerous Inhumans already, it would make sense for them to cross paths at some point. The first two episodes of the series will debut in IMAX theaters over Labor Day Weekend and is scheduled to be part of ABC’s fall lineup for the 2017-2018 season.
