For people of a certain age, there are a lot of fond memories for DuckTales, the highlight of the Disney Afternoon block alongside Chip ‘N’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin and Darkwing Duck. So now nostalgia fever has struck Disney XD, which will be launching a reboot of DuckTales later this year, and while we might cynically say that there’s no way that the channel can recapture the fun and adventure of the original Tales, you will now be dared not to hum along to the theme in eager anticipation. Disney has just released a new trailer, and it will have you eagerly awaiting more tales of ducks that seek treasure.
It’s hard not to hear the Scottish brogue of David Tennant coming out of the beak of Scrooge McDuck, who seems to have put his adventuring days behind him in this new iteration, that is until his nephews Huey Dewey and Louie arrive on his door. Also interesting is that Donald Duck seems to have a larger role in the new series than he had in the original DuckTales where he was recurring at best. Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz and Bobby Moynihan co-star as the voices of Huey, Dewey and Louie, respectively, and will be joined by Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack, Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack, and Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley.
In other DuckTales news, it looks like this summer will not be the last time you see anything from this new version of the show, for it’s already been renewed! “Fans around the world are eager and we’re looking forward to introducing viewers to the all-new DuckTales,” said Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager, Disney XD. “This early season two order is a testament to the quality work the creative team, led by Matt [Youngberg] and Frank [Angones], and the cast are delivering.”
DuckTales will be hitting your TV screens on Disney XD later this year.
