It’s been a very busy week for casting on superhero TV series, a real battle of the network comic book show stars. The latest round today concerns Fox‘s untitled “mutants on the run” series based on the X-Men, and this announcement features its nerdiest addition yet: Amy Acker. You may know her as Fred from Angel, or as Root in Person of Interest, or maybe your know her as Whisky in Dollhouse, Beatrice in Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Noting, the villainous Kelly Peyton in Alias, or Coulson’s beloved cellist in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but now Amy Acker will play the mom of mutants on the run from Johnny Law in the new X-Men-based series.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Acker will be playing opposite True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer as Kate Stewart, the human mother or two mutant kids on the run from the government and hiding amongst an underground community of other mutants. The Reporter added that Emma Dumont, who most recently was the White Lady on The Magicians, will be playing a classic X-Men character in the form of Lorna Dane, AKA: Polaris, the mistress of magnetism who, in the comics, is Magneto’s daughter. Between’s Percy Hynes White has also joined the cast as “a sensitive kid and bit of a loner, who keeps to himself to avoid the turmoil he faces at school and at home.”
Along with Moyer, Acker, Dumont and White, the cast for the show also includes Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Stewart, one of the two mutant kids, Sam Teale as the mutant Eclipse, Jamie Chung as the teleporting Blink, and Blair Redford as Sam, the Native American leader of the mutant community. The series was created by Burn Notice creator Matt Nix, and X-Men film series director Bryan Singer will direct the pilot. If picked up, the series will air next season on Fox.
