While making the publicity rounds for Life, which hits theaters this weekend, the writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had a sequel update for Zombieland fans. Now there’s nothing wrong with a Zombieland sequel, but shouldn’t they be hip deep in Deadpool 2? Check out the update and the issues a Zombieland sequel faces after the jump.
Zombieland is a wonderful film that took the undead concept to new humorous levels. Can a sequel, even with the same creators and cast top it? The short-lived and critically panned television show only made it to the pilot stage before spectacularly going up in flames.
There hasn’t been a lot of news about the sequel since that pilot made its way onto the Internet and fans cried foul. A logo pictured above was released by Sony at CinemaCon last year, but nothing else. Reese and Wernick must have built up more pull after the success of Deadpool so perhaps some Zombieland 2 movement is in the works. Here’s what the pair had to say in a recent interview about the status of Zombieland 2:
It is [in active development]. We’re trying to get it going. All of our cast have read the script and love it. Reuben [Fleischer] is signed on. It’s just a matter of making our cast deals and making it for a budget number. All the cast have become superstars now so, we made Zombieland with 20 million, so it’s trying to fit that financial model into the sequel model so it makes sense for the studio and being able to pay the actors what they now get paid and deserve to paid.
We see Tom Rothman [Sony Pictures Chairman] pretty frequently now and we’re pestering that dude. He’s like, ‘Please, enough with the Zombieland talk!’ We’re pestering him the way we pestered Fox on Deadpool. We’re not letting it go. We really want to see Zombieland 2.
CinemaCon 2017 is next week, that means we could get something from Sony on Zombieland 2. What do you think, does Zombieland deserve a sequel?
