It used to be that the release of a Marvel Studios movie was proceeded in some theatres by a marathon of all the previous Marvel movies. Well, there are now far too many Marvel movies to do something like that now because it would mean being in the cinema for the better part of a week, but how about a double bill? That seems to be the approach Marvel and select theatre owners are taking with the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, because what’s better than seeing one Guardians of the Galaxy movie? About about seeing two back-to-back?

Tickets for Guardians 2 went on sale on Friday, but now comes news that fans will be given the opportunity to tee up their excitement on opening night with a preceding screening of the first Guardians of the Galaxy from 2014. Check out his blurb:

“See a Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1/Vol. 2 double feature exclusively in RealD3D on Thursday May 4th at 4:30. That’s right! Over four hours of Guardians bliss with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 followed by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at select locations. Guests receive an exclusive poster and souvenir collectible button set. Tickets Now On Sale at Oh and check out this awesome new poster!”

Obviously, expectations are very, very high for Guardians 2. Box office tracking currently puts its opening weekend tally in the neighbourhood of $160 million, which was also the expected haul of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast according to Hollywood’s smartest box office scientists, and that movie ended up making $175 million it’s opening weekend. A $174 million opening weekend for the Guardians sequel would put it in line with Iron Man 3 and Captain America: Civil War in terms of the excitement and profitability on their opening weekends. Not bad for a bunch of a-holes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theatres everywhere on May 5.
